Supervision and Consulting for Counselors

Happily based in Black Mountain, North Carolina

Katherine Kilcher, LCMHCS, NCC

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor

I have been in the field of mental health for 40+ years, and am currently providing clinical supervision and consultation to mental health providers in the Asheville area.  I graduated from Lynchburg College in Virginia with a B.S. in psychology, then obtained my M.A. in counseling from Towson University in Baltimore.  I worked for 10 years in community mental health, and worked for 32 years as an owner/clinician at James River Counseling Center in Lynchburg.  During that time, I provided individual, family, and marital therapy to adults, children, and adolescents with a variety of issues and diagnoses. I also provided supervision to numerous residents working toward licensure, although my primary work was providing counseling to clients.  I moved to Black Mountain in 2019, and decided to pursue my interest in supervising and mentoring clinicians who are starting their careers in this field.  This has become my passion!   I do not have an office, but meet with my supervisees at their places of work.  (This saves time and hassle for my supervisees!)  I prefer face-to-face meetings, but am open to virtual meetings when warranted.  I operate from a strengths-based developmental model of supervision.  This approach allows me to flow between the roles of mentoring, teaching, coaching and supporting to adequately meet the needs of my supervisees.  My goal is to help each supervisee gain greater skills, identify areas of weakness and strength, articulate analysis of clinical cases, and to grow and develop as a clinician.

Living in the mountains has been a source of joy and peace for me.  I have found my place in Western NC, and am grateful to be part of this amazing community.  In my leisure time, I enjoy running, flyfishing, traveling, reading, and yoga. Time with my family is precious. I also do volunteer work through my church and Casting for Recovery (a non-profit organization that leads flyfishing retreats for women with breast cancer).
